Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today is the first of May and this should have been a very exciting time for everyone, except Mother Nature had other plans, unfortunately. I decided back in March that we would need to postpone Momento Con & Sci-Fi Valley Con until August. However, I’m here to provide you with the most honest and transparent information I can from my perspective as the Promoter.
Unfortunately, after an exhausting month, I’ve come to the nearly certain conclusion that all conventions will be canceled for the remainder of 2020. Honestly, nothing short of a miracle is going to make COVID less contagious in August than it is now.
In this time of economic and public health uncertainty, I feel like it’s every public event promoter’s responsibility to postpone all mass gatherings for this year. Mass gatherings are the epicenter of outbreaks and that’s the reality of the situation. To hold any mass gatherings at this time would be grossly irresponsible and would be a direct contributor to furthering the spread of COVID-19 throughout our communities; leading to more sickness and death.
I understand the temptation from everyone for things to go back to normal, but to do so would only result in prolonging Stay-at-Home orders and would undermine all the work we’ve done so far to flatten the curve. Our efforts have worked and the spread is slowing, but our impatience will lead to multiple waves, which could result in this pandemic continuing into 2021.
Our fans expect hands-on & up close and personal experiences with the celebrity guests… and that’s just impossible right now. I think we all know that even if somehow things “went back to normal” overnight, that conventions would still be overshadowed with fear and worry.
With that being said, I’m postponing Momento Con & Sci-Fi Valley Con until 2021.
Currently, my plan is to keep everything the same as it would have been for 2020. I’m working to see if all our guests are available to reschedule for 2021. About 80% of the guests have confirmed for both conventions and I’m just waiting on a few more replies. If a guest cancels, I will notify you if you purchased a ticket for them and you can get a refund or use the balance for another guest.
I will be automatically transferring everyone’s tickets and vendor spots to the new 2021 dates. I will be contacting the hotels to make sure that all the rooms are transferred over. If you don’t get an email from them soon, reach out to the hotel to confirm the date change.
I will need to revise the Momento Con seating chart and reissue new tickets. Your seat should remain in the same location, but I have to adjust a few things now that we are combining 2020 and 2021 together.
I have a lot of work ahead of me now to get everything back on track for next year. This will be a good time to get reorganized and next year we will come out of this better than we could have imagined. Things always have a way of working out that way. Next May will be beautiful and we will be ready.
